Miss USA Contestants answer the question “Should evolution be taught in school?”
This is depressing. Luckily the newly crowned Miss USA, Alyssa Campanella (California), is a self proclaimed science geek who won largely due to her pro-evolution answer to this question.
Most of the girls were smart enough not to shun evolution completely by answering that both creationism and evolution should be taught in schools, but apparently those answers were largely informed by their fear of sounding like Carrie Prejean with her controversial pro-“opposite marriage” statement from last year’s competition because many of them followed up with “but I personally don’t believe in evolution.”
The facepalm-iest stupid answer in this video is the girl who says “I took evolution in college […] I think it should be available as an elective at least.”
I made it through 2.5 answers before I wanted to kill someone. That’s progress.
